Facility: Crestwood Crisis Stabilization Services

Job Title: Dual Diagnosis Specialist

Status: Full Time

Shift: Flex

Minimum Qualifications:
This position is located in Fairfield.

High School Graduate or G.E.D.

Must have a minimum of two (2) years of full-time or equivalent experience working with clients who have severe and persistent mental disabilities. A bachelor's degree in psychology or a related field may be substituted for the two years of work experience.

Minimum of one year of work experience providing direct dual recovery (or substance abuse) related services in a mental health setting.

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

Must be self-directed and possess the ability to make independent decisions.

Has the ability to deal tactfully with all types of individuals, including assertiveness and effective conflict resolution skills.

Maintains an effective working partnership with clients, nursing and program staff, personnel in other departments, and any other involved individuals and groups to adequately plan for and meet client needs.


Duties:
Provides for ongoing planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the Dual Recovery Program.

Coordinates Dual Recovery Program services with the Program Services.

Assesses client's dual recovery needs and goals and completes required initial written evaluation for newly admitted clients before their Initial IDT Meeting.

Writes descriptive progress notes specific to clients dual recovery needs and goals at least every three months, in connection with the Quarterly IDT Plan schedules.

Documentation is neat and clear. All chart forms are stamped with client identification information. Only approved abbreviations are used. Notes are dated, timed and signed with full signature and title. Entries in corrections books will be kept at minimum and will be resolved ASAP without reminders.

According to identified client needs and goals, provides individual and group activities to meet these specific dual recovery needs and goals.

Actively encourages clients to attend and participate in recommended program groups and activities. This includes fostering client's participation, actively monitoring and intervening with client behaviors, and documenting attendance and participation following the group.

Provides for group coverage in expected absence. Only cancels a group or activity when no other options are possible.

Treats clients as individuals in a respectful manner that fosters dignity and personal independence. Calls clients by their preferred name.

Educates others about the dual recovery process and special needs of these clients, which includes staff inservice presentations at least annually. This may also include presentations for the Family Education and Support Program, to be coordinated with the Family Therapist.

Assists clients in understanding program expectations and center policies.

Fosters and maintains positive working relationships with clients, visitors, county officials and other staff.

Develops and maintains contacts with community resources and fosters positive relationships between facility and the community.

Attend meetings as required and/or assigned.

Attends and actively participates in Inservice Education program as required. Identifies educational needs and reports these to the Director of Staff Education.

Works cooperatively with other department personnel. Is a team player and readily assists coworkers as needed.

Performs other duties within the scope of the program services department as required and/or assigned by the Program Director.

Works with clients in training capacity, if applicable.

All other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset clients, responsible parties, family members, personnel, and visitors.

Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department supervisors and staff.

Sitting, standing, lifting, bending, and lifting intermittently and frequently during working hours.
