Learn about job opportunities at Idylwood

"Residents love cooking, growing, eating the food that they harvest from the garden it is so inspiring to see them so involved in working with the team"

Elizabeth Velasquez, Dietary Supervisor Idylwood Care Center And the Winner of CAHF 2008 Facility Superstar Award

Idylwood Care Center's philosophy embraces the principles of wellness and person-centered care, and it has transformed the facility from a skilled nursing environment to one that we proudly deem skilled living.¯

At Idylwood, we believe that individuals have the right to become an expert in managing their own care. We also know that individuals are unique, whole, and interdependent with their environments, and they can achieve their maximum independence when they are full participants in managing their own lives.

Wellness is achieved by ensuring the health, happiness, and well-being of the people who live and work at Idylwood. Our primary goal is creating an environment where people can progressively move towards their potential in physical, mental, and spiritual health. Idylwood is a place where people are actively involved in making choices regarding healthier and more meaningful lives. Our mission is to give people a reason to get up in the morning.

The Gardens at Idylwood
Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Services.

The Gardens at Idylwood is a 66-bed nursing and rehabilitation building on the Idylwood Care Center campus. The Gardens at Idylwood provides short-term rehabilitation as well as extended stay services. We are dedicated to creating an environment where people can progressively move towards their potential in physical, mental, and spiritual health.

Skilled Nursing Care
The Gardens at Idylwood campus features three large outdoor patios with comfortable, shaded sitting, dining, and recreation areas. For many residents who enjoy gardening, we have also constructed a wheelchair-accessible garden with elevated planters to encourage those with a green thumb to participate. We have a home-like dining room with residential kitchen equipment for residents to enjoy informal socializing or structured cooking activities and groups lead by our staff chef.

Rehabilitation Services
Physical Therapy: Combined electromagnetic and mechanical modalities, specialized post joint replacement care, stroke rehabilitation, fall prevention, arthritis treatment, and more.

Occupational Therapy: Activities of daily living retraining, splinting, home management preparation, safety awareness instruction and energy conservation techniques.

Speech Therapy: Focus on communication, cognition, and swallowing issues due to stroke, head injury or disease processes.

Along with traditional approaches to rehabilitation, such as our therapeutic gym, we also use alternative therapies integrating culinary and horticulture activities with the rehabilitation needs of the residents. We believe that utilizing normal daily activities as part of rehabilitation process improves outcomes and reduces length of stay.

Idylwood Care Center
Neurobehavioral Building.

The "Courtyard at Idylwood" is a 106-bed skilled nursing facility providing services for individuals with a combination of medical and behavioral needs. Services focus on skilled nursing, along with specific clinical programming addressing behavioral needs.

Traditional Skilled nursing facilities are often not able to address the complex needs of this population, which results in medical and psychiatric deterioration, acute hospitalizations, and negative outcomes. In contrast, Idylwood Care Center provides services designed to reduce the utilization of acute beds by stabilizing both behavioral and medical symptoms. We provide residents with a break from adverse living circumstances and the necessary support and resources for potential discharge to lower levels of care. Our goal is to provide individualized resident services and the highest quality care available.

Program Highlight

Statewide Recognition for Idylwood™s Programming
Idylwood was recognized by the California Association of Health Facilities (CAHF) for excellence in programming at the organization™s 2009 annual meeting. The award was given for the Idylwood Olympics, which featured residents and staff taking on the challenge of an Olympic-style competition. Participants celebrating a love of sports and the spirit of the Olympics was integrated into the daily lives of the people who live and work in the Idylwood community. Residents and staff became participants, not watchers, of world events and formed an even greater appreciation of Idylwood™s community and each other.

Special Feature

The produce for cooking activities is harvested from Idylwood Care Center's own vegetable gardens by residents and staff. We also have beautiful flower gardens and a rose garden. Residents can enjoy and relax in the gardens on their own or join a structured activity lead by an occupational therapist and activity staff. Both of these services have been featured in the workbook, Nourish the Body and Soul¯, published by Action Pact Inc., 2008.
